What is a Medical Cost Sharing Organization?
A Medical Cost Sharing Community is a group engaged healthcare consumers who choose to make regular contributions which are with members of the group when they experience an eligible medical need. They take indiviual ownership of their healthcare through healthy desicion making and the use of medical cost containment strategies. As a group they agree to focus on protecting their current health status through diet, exercise and personal preventive care. They agree to participate in cost containment strategies such as bill negotiations and shopping around to keep cost down for everyone which = More money to share for all.
What should you expect as a member of a medical cost sharing community?
You will be a self-pay patient. All of your bills will become your responsibility. Having this mindset will help avoid disappointment. The community will be there to support you.
The community members choose to contribute to and share each other's large medical needs, while not transferring the risk of their medical cost to the community
No middlemen between you and your healthcare providers. This includes the care you receive and the exchange of payment
The community focuses on assisting members with high dollar needs "if" they occur and assist the members to keep cost down when they do.
A medical cost sharing plan should not be structured to look like insurance. It should not use insurance terms such as copay, premiums, and deductible. It does not provide "coverage". Members volunteer to share eligible expenses with others "if" needed.
You will choose a specific dollar amount that you will be responsible for each separate illness or injury. As a self-pay patient, you pay this yourself. The community may assist with bill negotiation to keep your cost down
You will be an active participant in all aspects of your healthcare. No more giving a card and expecting everything to be done for you
You will be expected to follow the community guidelines. These are not to restrict members but are designed to protect the finances of the community. What you do will always be your choice.
Medical Cost Sharing Communities are NOT INSURANCE. They do not pay for small medical expenses. There are no "claims". The community only assist members with paying for a "need" which is an illness or injury that cost more than the out of pocket dollar limit the member chose to be responsible for themselves and their family
There are restrictions on sharing for pre-existing conditions especially in the first years of membership. This helps keep cost low and prevents the transfer of risk to the community.
The Medical Cost Sharing Organization that I partnered with meets all of the above requirements. They are open to all who are willing to meet their guidelines. They are not a Healthcare Sharing Ministry.
